Poverty of Ethics by Anat Matar (2022, Hardcover)

Explore the compelling arguments of "The Poverty of Ethics" by Anat Matar. This insightful book challenges conventional moral-political dichotomies, positing that political discourse fundamentally shapes ethical convictions. Discover how historical narratives, political analysis, and personal experiences lend substance to our ethical frameworks. Matar argues that morality is inherently left-wing and scrutinizes the very concepts we use to understand the relationship between the moral and the political. The book critiques narrow conceptions of morality, demonstrating how they fail to inform political will or action. It reveals how the pursuit of a 'moral high ground' can be a tool for de-politicization and a means to maintain the status quo. Key Features: * Challenges traditional moral-political divides. * Argues for the political origins of ethical substance. * Explores the left-wing nature of morality. * Critiques the limitations of conventional ethical accounts. * Analyzes how 'moral high ground' can serve political ends.
